SMP- Telkom School is junior High School in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesis. Makassar is the provincial capital of South Sulawesi. This school is a school where I have practiced teaching and get learning about teaching in 1 month. The school has 26 teachers. The students range from grade 7 to 9. Student had learning time held on Monday to Friday. It takes place at 7 A.M. to 2 P.M.. And on Saturday takes place at 7 A.M. to 12 A.M.

Teaching system

Student had learning time held on Monday to Friday. It takes place at 7 A.M. to participate in the morning ceremony every Monday and take class on Tuesday- Friday. They have to take in classes for 80 -120 minutes or 2 hours per each field. For the break time, there are 2 times per 30 minutes for take a break is 9.55 A.M. - 10.35 A.M and having lunch is 11.55 A.M.- 12.55 A.M. but on Monday has take a break is 10.35 A.M. - 11.15 A.M. and having lunch is 12.35 A.M.- 1.15 P.M. because on Monday have the morning ceremony and the time to end the class is about 2 P.M. . On Saturday morning to Saturday at noon had activities time such as play sport, learning about native dance and make activities that they want. Saturday is a time for students to learn different things and different activities from Monday to Friday with classroom activities. Every Friday, They had learning time just Friday morning. Friday at noon after having lunch students will go to pray at 1 P.M. in mosque. After finished the a pray student have a learning about scout.



Materials and other learning sources

  • Classroom: The teachers use projector and computer for teaching in some classes.

  • Laboratories: Science, computer, Multimedia, have equipped with complete laboratory equipment, there are enough computers for the number of students and high technology.

  • Library: Students learn from the book which is from the government, and the internet in the library.

  • Mosque: This place is used for praying in every day.

  • Gymnasium : student use this place for play sport, training sport and teacher use for teacher sport in physical education.



Measurement and evaluation system

The measurement and evaluation are focused on the standards in the curriculum. When the teachers finish each any classes, they have to evaluate students’ knowledge. They can observe what happens during the students are working in any activities that are assigned and check the student's worksheet and student's homework when they assigns to student. The teachers can also use a test to check students’ understanding at the end of the lesson. And they need to create the rubric for some activities focusing on skills like scientific experiment.


SMP- Telkom Middle School is one of the Junior High Schools of Telkom Education Foundation which is under the guidance of PT. Telkom Indonesia. Status is Private.

Management of Teaching and Learning

The structure of the curriculum SMP- Telkom Middle School KTSP is organized as follows: is organized as follows:




Curriculum

The curriculum used is the National curriculum of Indonesia (Indonesian Curriculum) and the local content set by the school. In some primary and lower secondary schools, accelerated learning is allowed, permitting students to complete their education in less time than is traditional. We offer online education courses that can assist these accelerated students keep up their interest in learning outside of the classroom. Learning math classes and English courses allow students access to many levels of coursework, letting them continually challenge themselves from home. To strengthen the mastery of instructional materials, additional lessons are given in the form of extracurricular activities on some subjects, namely English (English Conversation), Japanese, Mathematics, and Al-Qur'an Reading. Learning with "Bilingual Teaching " which utilizes various media and laboratory facilities, and is used in special classes.

According to the Indonesian Institution of National Education Standards (2006) curriculum is“a set of plans and rules about the goals, content, teaching materials, and the methods used to guide the implementation of instructional activities on achieving certain educational goals, its certain goals include the national education goals in accordance with the local potential needs, education unit and learners”

Fields that students learn when they are in the junior high school grads as the follows:

  • Scientific field: English Conversation, Scientific Project, math.

  • Field of Sport: Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Baseball, badminton, football and taekwondo

  • Field of Art: Dance, Cabaret and Batik

  • Religious field: Spiritual Islam, al-Quran Literacy, Pecimas, Indonesian language.

  • Field of skills: Scouting, and Paskibra

  • Organization: OSIS, Scouts

  • Extracurricular: Sports (Futsal, Basketball, Karate, Badminton), Science and Technology (Mathematics, English), Art (Music, Dance, Teather)

This curriculum is different from my country curriculum. It makes me excited to learn it.
